Happy New Year's

                                                              Hello Sweeties!!
I have GOT to stop these long hiatuses... I am one step closer to GRADUATION!!!! 1 class to be exact. I should be leaping for joy and striding into my finishing stance yet I feel anxiety and worry. The job market is ... well let's face it... The job market is almost nonexistent. I would hate it if I graduate and can't find or create a successful niche area... Feelings of defeat would definitely creep in... My family does not see sewing as a REAL career, especially since I was starting my 3rd semester of nursing, worked in the  medical field in the military and have always had medical jobs before I started in fashion.  My family was a military family and believed that medical jobs and the military were the only way for a successful life. With all this said, this brings me to my focus for today --- New Year's Resolutions

Bringing in the New Year... I am hopeful to bring several goals to fruition... I am a hustler.. in all meanings of the word... If one thing does not pop, I find something that will. Whatever I need to do to  sustain myself and my family without breaking stride. My goal is to either work for a local designer and learn more or to start a website of my own and work that way. I even have a back up plan for the back up plan -- Work at the first place to hire me and work weekends designing pieces, dyeing fabrics and styling friends until I build clientele.
Having a focus bring things to life for me. Without it, I feel as if I am sitting in a sandbox playing with my toes.. I hate that feeling. Therefore, I  have decided on 10+ thingsI will be doing this year.

  • Designing New Pieces
  • Sketching More
  • Dyeing scarves to sale on Etsy
  • Attending Small Business meetings to network
  • Attend as many fashion events as humanly possible
  • Stay current as an FashionGroup International (FGI)-Houston student member
  • Obtain gainful employment
  • Style photo shoots
  • Build &maintain clientele
  • Take a MAC makeup class
  • Travel to museums in nearby cities and in the local area for inspiration
  • Build a working portfolio for design and styling
  • Get business cards that are eye catching and not the same ol' mundane cards everyone has seen
  • Have my logo designed and trademarked
  • Update my look
  • Keep sewing
Yeah that about sums it up... Once a plan is in place, things usually seem to fall into place.

So, HAPPY NEW YEAR & HEEEEERRRRREEEE I GO!!!
